TIBA has successfully managed, through its Project Cargo vertical, the transport of a 250-tonne Manitowoc crane, made up of 29 pieces, from Puerto Angamos, Chile, to a vessel anchored off the coast of Urabá, Antioquia, with final delivery in Turbo, Colombia.
The operation, which lasted approximately two months, required highly detailed technical planning from the outset. TIBA’s team identified all stakeholders involved, established daily communication between the parties, and defined specific work plans for each stage of the operation. A prior technical visit was also carried out to assess the condition of the cargo, the critical points of the move, and the resources required.

To ensure safe handling throughout the entire journey, the crane was dismantled according to a transport plan specifically designed around the characteristics of the cargo. The operation included pick-up from the yard in Antofagasta, transfer to an authorised depot, professional high-pressure cleaning, documentation management, export customs clearance, loading at Puerto Angamos, and an approximately 15-day sea transit on a part-cargo vessel chartered by TIBA’s chartering department.
One of the most critical stages was the discharge operation in Colombia, which took place in open waters using a hopper barge positioned alongside the vessel. The discharge lasted approximately seven hours and was completed successfully, with no incidents and under strict safety standards.

With this operation, TIBA reinforces its capability to design and execute tailor-made logistics solutions for oversized, heavy-lift and technically complex cargo.
